I remember my first time fishing. We were camping at Bass River campground in New Jersey. My dad took me out to the dam, I was less than 10 years old.  He pulled out this piece of wood with string wrapped around it, with a hook on the end of the string. He held out a cup of worms and told me to take one and be very careful putting it on the hook. Being a little girl, I wasn’t ready to touch a squishy worm. After a few tears, he baited the hook and showed me how to throw the line out from my “fishing pole”. I don’t remember catching anything that warm summer day. But I did see a turtle along the banks of the lake with a nest of eggs; I was in awe. This continued me on my way with the love of nature and the outdoors and makes for a good memory.

Of course I may have had greater success if I had a rod and reel from Penn Reels. The selection is amazing with conventional,bait-cast, and spinning  reels for Freshwater, Saltwater, and Deep sea/ Surf fishing. Whatever your needs, Penn Reels has the rod with the length, strength, and action to suit your preference. With Boat rods, Jigging rods, Surf and Inshore rods. Since 1932 Penn has been producing quality, dependable products and have backed their fishing rods and reels.

Hunting up in a treestand is by far one of the preferred bowhunters method of hunting. While it does give you more of an advantage being above your game, he’s less likely to wind you, you still should never forget basic treestand safety. Always tell someone your hunting plan. Hunt with a buddy whenever possible.

Before putting up your stand make sure the tree is live, straight and of the right diameter for your stand. Inspect the stand to make sure all fittings are tight and secure. Make sure you understand how to attach your stand to the tree securely. Always use a haul line to bring up gear after you are in the stand. Unload all weapons before hauling up. Do not leave a treestand in place longer than two weeks as weather and other conditions may leave damage to the stand that you cannot see. Always carefully inspect an existing treestand before using.

Most importantly Always Wear a Fall-Arrest System(FAS)/Full Body Harness that meets TMA standards. Hunter Safety Systems has several full body harness’s to choose from to meet your body size from youth to adult. Used in conjunction with your safety harness the Downsafe Emergency Descent System lowers you safely to the ground should a fall occur.

In many states muzzleloader hunting is gaining popularity. I think it is the challenge of having only one shot to get your kill. For some it may be reconnecting with the past traditions of early firearm hunting. Whatever your reasons, maintaining and storing your muzzleloader correctly will ensure your weapon of choice is ready for the hunt.

Cleaning your weapon after every hunt is a must. Always refer to the owners manual for specifics to your muzzleloader. Thompson Center Arms makes quality products to aid you in the process of  cleaning. Typically you might use bore cleaner, breach plug cleaner and seasoning/cleaning patches.

Once the weapon is properly cleaned, make sure it’s well lubed if storing for long periods of time. Store in a cool dry place. Make sure it is locked away from curious children. Always check your weapon periodically for developing rust that can ruin your muzzleloader; thoroughly clean all rust spots so you can enjoy muzzleloader hunting for years to come. Having a muzzleloader in good condition will make you proud when you past the tradition down to your son or daughter.
